More ATC's

I am finally back from vacation! It's always so good to be back home. I must say I am getting better at the flying part of the trip. I guess the older I get the less I worry about it.

So I will be getting back to work on my ATC's and my Quilting. I have really let my quilting go for the last 6 months. I really need to get to work on some things for our quilt show!

Cabinet Cards

I am so happy I saw the artical in Somerset this month on Cabinet Cards. It was tough to do the first real cabinet card. But since it was no one in my family AND I was not "messing up" the photo too much I have found that altering the cards is really bringing them back to life! These cards were just sitting in a box at the antique mall and I doubt anyone will buy them for the photos. Why would they??

Well since I had to have gallbladder surgery I have not been in the mood to update my blog. But I am feeling much better now. The surgery was not too bad, they did the 4 hole thing and just suck it out somehow. So I have been working on some ATC's and APC's for some swaps I am in. I also found a new art, well it's new to me anyway. Cabinet Cards. I never knew what one was till I saw one the someone had altered. Then there was an artical in Somerset about them, sooo I had to find out what they were. I checked on the web and found tons of photos, and in fact that is what a cabinet card is, a vintage photo that is done and made into a card that is about 4 1/2x6 1/2. I looked on e-bay and for the most part they are on the pricey side. So I decied to try to make my own. I call them fake cabinet cards. I stopped by our local antique mall and found some real cabinet cards for $2-$4 each. So I had to have a few. I have altered 2 so far and they have really turned out nice. I may just have to go back and get some more. Here is what they look like.

Art Dolls!! Here is one of the art dolls I have made. It's just paper, water color paper really. I would love to be able to make them out of matt board but that is too hard for me to cut. I wonder if someone or a company makes this type of paper doll?

Eyes

I finally got some time to sketch my eyes...well one of them. I still have trouble getting things on the left looking like what is on the right. As for the leaves I have had no luck at all with sketching one. I'm not seeing what it looks like if that makes sense. We are going camping tomorrow just up to PA so I hope to do something sketch wise while we are there.

Metal

Here is metal challenge...I'm not sure how to make something look like metal. I guess it's all in the shading. I already had the compacts done for the collection challenge and since they are metal I thought why not.

Buttons

These are some of my home made buttons. I saw this done in a craft magazine and thought it would be something to give a try. I have too many hobbies!

Fabric ATC

This is the first one I have made..I think it turned out nice!

Our PA. Trip

I took some time last night to sketch one of the barns and one of the covered bridges we saw while camping last week. The one of the barn had a morning glory growing up the side. I don't know how to draw the flower part (it would have been really really small) so I just did the leaves. The second one is of one of the covered bridges we saw. Most of them were the same type of covered bridge so I just picked one that was the best view. I did cheat a little on the bridge. I made some dots with a ruler so I could get the roof and the bottom straight. I am not the best at straight lines. And my sketches tend to get that leaning tower effect. I am thinking of doing some water colors on both.

New Church

My quilt guild had to move from the small church we have been meeting at since our group has grown so much this past year. We have 60 members now so we needed to find a new place. This church in Westminster has new meeting rooms now that they have this new building. I did this while I was waiting for other members to show up. I was sitting in my car. I just don't know what to do with the roof. At least this is not AS crooked as some of my other sketches. And all those bricks! I would like to see the inside of the church one day. I have heard it is beautiful!
